In Wednesday’s (6/22) Detroit News, Lawrence B. Johnson writes, “If there could be a poster-perfect board member for a symphony orchestra, Annemarie Cronin would be the ideal fit for the Michigan Philharmonic, known until March as the Plymouth Symphony. When the 65-year-old community orchestra became the Michigan Philharmonic, the idea was to spread not just its wings but also its embrace, to take music to audiences throughout the region and indeed establish itself as a regional institution. Cronin, an ardent music lover who owns an advertising agency in Bloomfield Hills and lives in Troy, got the message and liked what she heard. She recently signed on as the Michigan Philharmonic’s newest board member. … She says she supports the Philharmonic because ‘they’re reaching out to a broad and diverse audience and they’re committed to education.’ She also was impressed by the organization’s internal sense of family. ‘The administration is involved with the musicians,’ Cronin says, ‘and the musicians feel empowered to speak up and bring forth ideas.’ ” Music Director Nan Washburn points out that the name change also allows the orchestra to approach donors from a wider geographical area.
