In Friday’s (10/31) Augusta Chronicle (Ga.), Meg Mirshak reports, “Mieko Hatano has stepped down as executive director of Symphony Orchestra Augusta. Hatano, who now goes by her maiden name, joined the music organization in August 2012. Her resignation was effective Friday, and the symphony’s board of directors is forming a search committee to find her replacement, according to a news release. Jennifer Voth, senior director of patron and institutional advancement, was named interim executive director. The symphony said that Hatano was relocating to the west coast to be closer to her family. ‘Mieko was an incredible asset to SOA during her time here in Augusta and a true champion to the arts,’ said SOA Board President Brian Marks.” Hatano (formerly known as Mieko Di Sano) came to the orchestra following a stint at Oregon’s Eugene Symphony. At the SOA she “has worked closely with the ongoing campaign to renovate the historic Miller Theater into the symphony’s new concert hall.”
