In Wednesday’s (10/17) Tennessean (Nashville), Meagan Rhodes writes, “Nashville Symphony Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero’s contract has been extended through 2020. ‘We are very pleased that Giancarlo has made this long-term commitment to the symphony,’ said Nashville Symphony Board Chairman Ed Goodrich, who announced the news today at Schermerhorn Symphony Center. ‘His vision, imagination and consistently high level of musicianship continue to bring positive attention to this organization.’ … Guerrero became Music Director of the Nashville Symphony in 2009. ‘I look forward to staying in Nashville—it is truly home for me and my family, and I have so many goals and dreams for the orchestra,’ Guerrero said in a statement. … Over the past four years, Guerrero has overseen a period of tremendous artistic growth in the orchestra, with wide-spread attention on his Carnegie Hall debut in May with the orchestra at the Spring for Music Festival. Other milestones include four Grammy awards—one in February for Joseph Schwantner’s ‘Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra’ and three for his recording with the orchestra of Michael Daugherty’s ‘Metropolis Symphony’ and ‘Deus Ex Machina,’ including one for best orchestral performance. The orchestra also received the 2011 ASCAP award for programming of contemporary music under Guerrero’s direction.”
