The National Symphony Orchestra’s January 22 performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. will benefit relief efforts underway in Haiti following the earthquake that struck on January 12. Principal Conductor Iván Fischer will open with a special performance of Bach’s “Air on a G String,” which was added to the orchestra’s scheduled program of Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 and Mahler’s Das Lied von Der Erde with mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn and tenor Stig Andersen. At 6 p.m., just prior to the 8 p.m. NSO concert, there will be a free Haitian-themed performance on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.
