Terry Wolkowicz, education director and board chair of the New Bedford (Mass.) Symphony Orchestra, was among the 26 volunteers honored with this year’s Myra Kraft Community MVP Award from the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. Fifteen New England-based organizations, including the New Bedford Symphony, were presented with $5,000 grants in honor of their volunteers’ work. Ten others received grants of $10,000, and one grand prize winner was presented with $25,000. “Terry has transformed what we have been able to do for our community,” said NBSO President and CEO Dave Prentiss in a statement. “Thousands of children now know how much fun music can be and are excited about learning because of Terry’s work.” Wolkowicz has developed the SchoolsMusic! program, which explores symmetries in art, geometry, music, and nature at 50 area schools. Under her direction the program has grown to serve 30,000 children each year.
