At California’s Santa Rosa Symphony, musicians and management have agreed to a new five-year contract covering the period from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2019. The collective bargaining agreement includes a 14 percent service-rate increase over five years and the addition of three string musicians—one each of first violin, second violin, and bass—beginning in 2015-16. The orchestra librarian position becomes a union position. “The management and union teams worked diligently and respectfully to produce a new agreement that reflects a long-term commitment to insuring the artistic and financial health of the orchestra,” said SRS Executive Diretor Alan Silow. Bruno Ferrandis is the Santa Rosa Symphony’s music director, and the orchestra’s home since 2012 is the Green Music Center in Sonoma, where it is resident orchestra.
