The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will open its 2018-19 season in October with the commissioned world premiere of Fanfare for 125 by Martin Bresnick, to mark the orchestra’s 125th season. William Boughton, who will step down in May 2019 after twelve years as music director, will lead the program, which also will include music by Humperdinck, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Dvořák. Also planned in 2018-19 are Orff’s Carmina Burana and Handel’s Messiah; symphonies by Mozart (No. 31), Haydn (No. 102), Beethoven (No. 3), and Mahler (No. 3); and an all-American program featuring music by Aaron Copland, Joseph Schwantner, Charles Ives, Tobias Picker, and Daniel Bernard Roumain. Pops conductor Chelsea Tipton will lead December holiday programs with the Elm City Girls Choir, and concerts themed to Frank Sinatra, Broadway, and film music.
