The Minnesota Orchestra has been appointed MARGUERITE LYNN WILLIAMS as principal harp. She will take on her new role in September 2020, following the retirement of Principal Harp Kathy Kienzle, who has been with the orchestra since 1993. Williams is currently principal harp of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and is a faculty member at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Williams is a founding member of the Chicago Harp Quartet, International Chamber Artists, and the harp and flute duo La Folia, and often collaborates with musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera of Chicago. She has appeared with orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Williams has won multiple awards, and appeared as a featured performer and lecturer at American Harp Society conventions and the World Harp Congress in Vancouver. Williams earned a bachelor’s degree and performer’s certificate at the Eastman School of Music, and a master’s degree at the Chicago College of Performing Arts.
