“The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has invested millions of dollars to fund technology initiatives at the Pérez Art Museum Miami and New World Symphony,” writes Emon Reiser in Wednesday’s (12/5) South Florida Business Journal (Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Florida). “The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) received a $3 million share…. The New World Symphony (NWS) in Miami Beach received $2.5 million to develop technology that will be used to better engage its audiences, as well as commission new works and help diversify its orchestras…. Knight Foundation has also supported other technologically driven initiatives from NWS including Wallcast concerts, which allow visitors to see live classical music performances at SoundScape Park on a 7,000-square-foot project wall, and Musaic, an online training program for music students. Another 20 Miami organizations also received pieces of Knight Foundation’s $37 million in new funding, including … $2.25 million for the Frost School of Music.” NWS President and CEO Howard Herring said, “The New World Symphony has established a reputation for pioneering work in the integration of digital media with music performance and education. Knight Foundation has been a strong partner in this work.”
