An NBC report posted Monday (8/31) on the North Carolina website MyNC.com states, “After cutting back its season because of budget constraints, the North Carolina Symphony decided to host a free concert as a way to give back to the community. The event will be held Saturday Sep. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Moore Square. David Worters, symphony CEO, said musicians will donate their time, and the Red Clay Ramblers will also join the symphony for the event free of charge. … The symphony’s traditional Pops in the Park concert will not take place because of the group’s shortened season, caused by budget reductions. The symphony is facing about a $4 million budget deficit, and musicians have taken the largest salary cut at around 17 percent. However, Worters said, a number of summer concerts have been well-attended. ‘Here it is, a pretty difficult economic time, and the summer season that we just completed was one of the most successful summer seasons we’ve ever had,” he said.”
