“Ruth Henderson, 84, wife of the late Skitch Henderson and co-founder of The Silo and Hunt Hill Farm Trust, died Tuesday at her home,” writes Emily Olson in Thursday’s (2/27) Litchfield County Times (Connecticut). Skitch Henderson served as music director and conductor of the orchestra of the New York Pops from its founding in 1983 until his death in 2005. “She helped found The New York Pops and served as its president to the present day…. Creating the New York Pops concert during the holidays … was an example of Mrs. Henderson’s determination…. In 2006, the Henderson Cultural Center at Hunt Hill Farm started a music education program for young musicians, the New Talent Initiative…. Mrs. Henderson was born on Jan. 12, 1930, in Planen, Germany. She came to the United States in 1951, marrying Skitch in 1958.… Beginning in the late 1960’s the couple owned and operated a number of restaurants in New York City, Garrison, N.Y., and St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Mrs. Henderson is survived by her daughter, Heidi, her son, Hans, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren…. A memorial service is planned in the spring.”
