The Omaha Symphony in Nebraska has announced the details of its 2010-11 season, which opens September 24 with Music Director Thomas Wilkins leading the orchestra in a program to include Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, with violinist Midori. The orchestra’s 90th season will feature classical, pops, chamber music, and rock-and-roll themed “Symphony Rocks” concerts, all at Omaha’s Holland Performing Arts Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Willis A. and Janet S. Strauss Performing Arts Center. Season highlights include Stravinsky’s Firebird, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Guest artists include cellist Julian Schwarz, pianist Joyce Yang, soprano Alyson Cambridge, clarinetist Ricardo Morales, and Celtic fiddler Eileen Ivers.
