In Monday’s (7/30) Quad City Times (Iowa), David Burke writes, “A newly formed partnership between Ballet Quad-Cities and the Cedar Rapids-based Orchestra Iowa is seen as a win-win by the Rock Island company’s executive director. ‘Robert Massey, who is the executive director of Orchestra Iowa, had very much wanted to add ballet to their entire season once the Paramount (Theatre) opened,’ [Ballet Quad-Cities Executive Director] Joedy Cook said. ‘The first thing they wanted to do was bring in a ‘Nutcracker.’ And the more we talked after he got here and saw the videotapes, the documentation, the caliber of the performers, the dancers, it just began to expand.’ So the symphony and the Cedar Rapids theater, reopening in November after 2008 flooding caused major damage, gets a resident ballet company. And, in turn, Ballet Quad-Cities gets live music for two of its performances in the upcoming season. ‘It’s always been a goal of our ballet company to have live music,’ Cook said. … Ballet Q-C’s traditional ‘Nutcracker’ will be the first weekend of December in Cedar Rapids and the following weekend at Davenport’s Adler Theatre. The storybook ballet ‘Cinderella’ will be April 13-14 at the Paramount and April 20-21 at the Adler.”
