“The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra announced Wednesday that its next season at Carnegie Hall would include a mix of classical works and new pieces, and feature performances with soloists including the pianists Christian Zacharias and Fazıl Say, the violinist Vadim Gluzman and the cellist Alisa Weilerstein,” writes Michael Cooper in Wednesday’s (2/10) New York Times. “The season — the orchestra’s 44th — will begin on Oct. 27, with Mr. Zacharias playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on a program that also will include the New York premiere of Jessie Montgomery’s ‘Records from a Vanishing City,’ which was commissioned by Orpheus. On Dec. 3, Mr. Say will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 along with works by Haydn and Rossini and one of his own [Piano Concerto No. 2 (‘Silk Road’)]. On Feb. 4, 2017, Mr. Gluzman will play Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto on a program that will include the premiere of a Michael Hersch piece. And on March 18, the season will end with Ms. Weilerstein’s performance of Schumann’s Cello Concerto and music by Mendelssohn, Webern and Schubert.”
