An unsigned report in Sunday’s (3/11) Columbus Dispatch states, “A composition by an assistant professor at Ohio Wesleyan University will have its premiere on March 24 by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in Carnegie Hall in New York. Clint Needham’s When We Forget, a reflection on Alzheimer’s disease, is one of four works commissioned from ‘up-and-coming composers’ by the chamber orchestra to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The concept, Needham said, ‘came to me after looking through pictures of my children and realizing that I did not remember many of the events captured in the photographs. Though my forgetfulness was only temporary, millions of people live with this tragic reality every day. This work is dedicated to all those suffering from the disease and their heroic caregivers.’ Needham also won the 2011 Barlow Prize, an international award with a $12,000 commission to compose a work for woodwind quintet. The composition will be introduced next year by the Imani Winds, Fifth House Ensemble and Orpheus Winds.”
