From February 23-26, 2012, the Park Avenue Armory will devote its second Tune-In Music Festival to composer Philip Glass, who turns 75 in January 2012. The festival will include the world premiere of a work by jazz guitarist Bill Frisell inspired by Allen Ginsberg’s poem Kaddish; Frisell will perform with an eight-piece ensemble; Ginsburg collaborator Hal Willner, who will read from the Ginsberg poem; and artist Ralph Steadman, who will provide visual designs. Also scheduled for the festival are a concert entitled “The Poet Speaks” with longtime Glass collaborator Patti Smith; the Philip Glass Ensemble performing Glass’s Music in Twelve Parts (1971-74); and Glass’s 1975 choral work Another Look at Harmony, with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, the Collegiate Chorale, and organist Michael Riesman. The armory’s first Tune-In Music Festival in February 2011 included works by composers John Luther Adams, Paul Fowler, Paul Haas, and Bora Yoon, with performers including eighth blackbird, Argento Chamber Ensemble, and the orchestra Sympho.
