“Election day is fast approaching. And for many it’s a time of high anxiety,” writes Zev Kane on Tuesday (11/1) at New York classical radio station WQXR. “To help us all cope, we have assembled a list of the best classical music videos that will chill our tempers and calm our nerves. Remember, regardless of whoever wins, we will always have this timeless classical music.” Among the works included are selections from Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World,” John Luther Adams’s Become Ocean, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, and Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel. Also mentioned are works by Fauré, Mozart, Ludovico Einaudi (b. 1955), and Domenico Zipoli (1688–1726). A separate article in the Buffalo News (N.Y.) notes that radio station WNED-FM has rebranded itself “Your Classical Escape” during the middle of the election season, in response to German research indicating that classical music could lower heart rates and trigger other health benefits.
