The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Robert Spano have released a recording of four works by Michael Kurth, a member of the orchestra’s bass section: Everything Lasts Forever, A Thousand Words, May Cause Dizziness, and Miserere, on the orchestra’s own ASO Media label. Pianist Kirill Gerstein is featured on a new Boston Symphony Orchestra recording of Busoni’s Piano Concerto, conducted by Sakari Oramo, on the Myrios Classics label. The Bang on a Can All-Stars and Contemporaneous ensembles are featured on a new album entitled The Passion, featuring music by Jeffrey Brooks and jointly released by the Innova Recordings and Cantaloupe Music labels. The Boston Modern Orchestra Project has released Black Noise, a recording of three works by David Sanford, on its BMOP Sound label. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has released “Italian Masterworks” on its own CSO Resound label, featuring Music Director Riccardo Muti leading works by Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, and Boiti, with bass Riccardo Zanellato, the Chicago Symphony Chorus, and Chicago Children’s Choir. The British Chineke! orchestra and pianist Stewart Goodyear will be featured on a June 7 Orchid Classics recording of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Goodyear’s own Piano Sonata and Callaloo, conducted by Wayne Marshall. Detroit Symphony Orchestra Principal Tuba Dennis Nulty is featured on a new Naxos recording of John Williams’s Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Laureate Leonard Slatkin. The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s recording of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Cello Concerto, featuring Yo-Yo Ma, has been released on the Sony Classical label. Sony Classical has released a recording of French cello concertos by Saint-Saëns, Lalo, and Milhaud, with soloist Hee-Young Lim and the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Scott Yoo; also included are Offenbach’s Les larmes de Jacqueline and Massenet’s Mediation from Thaïs.
