Richard W. Robbins, newly named Chorus Director and James Erb Choral Chair of the Richmond Symphony Chorus.

The Richmond Symphony has appointed Richard W. Robbins as chorus director and James Erb Choral Chair of the Richmond Symphony Chorus. He joins the organization on April 16 and will prepare the chorus for the Verdi Requiem at the symphony’s season-finale concerts in June. Robbins succeeds Erin Freeman, who stepped down in 2021 to become artistic director of the City Choir of Washington, D.C. Robbins currently serves as director of choral activities, choral artist-in-residence, and associate professor at Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA. Previously, he was chorus master of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Houston Ballet, and assistant director of the Houston Symphony Chorus. His choral performances have been featured on television and nationally syndicated radio programs. Ensembles under his direction have performed at choral conferences and earned awards at festivals.
