The Richmond Symphony Orchestra in Virginia reports that it has received a $500,000, one-to-one challenge grant from the Cabell Foundation, a private foundation supporting Richmond-area institutions including cultural arts groups. Under the terms of the challenge, the orchestra must raise $500,000 in new or increased support to receive the award. On successful completion of the challenge, the RSO will use the $500,000 gift to recruit and retain professional musicians and administrative talent; the challenge match is designed to help raise new dollars for fiscal years 2013 and 2014. “We’re honored and most grateful for this extraordinary demonstration of confidence in the Symphony’s value, relevance and importance to this community,” said Executive Director David J. L. Fisk. “This opportunity will help us sustain our artistic excellence and we hope will grow our existing base of support by leveraging new dollars from new sources.”
