“Violist Hyobi Sim and oboist Barbara Bishop are the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s newest permanent members,” writes Ross Raihala on 8/25 in the Pioneer Press (St. Paul, Minn.) “Sim drew the attention of the group during a 2013 recruiting trip to New York City. The Korean-born musician studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School. She was selected as a member of the Curtis on Tour ensemble where she performed in Detroit, California, Maine and Chicago…Bishop joined the SPCO as a guest musician in the [2014-15] season, taking a leave of absence from her position as assistant teaching professor of oboe at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory and associate principal oboe with the Kansas City Symphony. She studied at the Eastman School and the University of Minnesota.” Raihala reports that “with the addition of Sim and Bishop, along with other recent hires, the orchestra now counts 21 members. Seven more positions will be filled, but an orchestra spokesperson said the auditions committee is willing to take as much time as needed to find the musicians who are the right fit for the ensemble.”
