Minnesota’s Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra has announced details of its 2010-11 season, with programming created by its five artistic partners: Roberto Abbado, Dawn Upshaw, Edo de Waart, Christian Zacharias, and Thomas Zehetmair. Abbado will open the season with a semistaged version of Don Giovanni, the second in a multi-season exploration of Mozart’s operas that began in 2006 with Cosi fan tutte. Upshaw will perform a world premiere by Gabriela Frank, led by Joana Carneiro; De Waart will lead Mahler’s The Song of the Earth, with soprano Sasha Cook, to commemorate the centennial of Mahler’s death; Zacharias will lead an all-Mozart program based on a 1783 program directed and performed by Mozart himself; and Zehetmair will pair works by Haydn with those of later composers, including Elliott Carter and Frank Martin. Several baroque-themed programs will feature guest conductors Harry Bicket, Laurence Cummings, Ton Koopman, and Nicholas McGegan, and composer and conductor Matthias Pintscher will make his SPCO debut leading his own celestial object I and II and Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin. The SPCO will perform at Carnegie Hall on May 13 as part of the inaugural Spring for Music festival. Beginning in the 2010-11 season, the SPCO will lower its ticket price for concerts at the Ordway and Ted Mann Concert Hall to $10, $25, and $40, with more than 75 percent of tickets at $25 or less. Tickets previously ranged from $11 to $59, with 30 percent of tickets priced at $25 or less.
