North Carolina’s Salisbury Symphony is forming a chorale that will perform six concerts over the next two seasons, with a different conductor leading each concert. Singers will be auditioned for the group on August 7, and one of the six conductors will be selected as Chorale Director, beginning with the 2019-20 season. The Chorale’s first concert with the orchestra will take place on September 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, with Music Director David Hagy conducting and former Charlotte Symphony Chorale Director David Tang preparing the chorus for Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony and Bach’s Cantata No. 80 (“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”) in a program marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The Chorale’s second concert will be selections from Handel’s Messiah, prepared by Phillip Burgess, on a date to be announced. Remaining concerts over the next two years will be announced later. The Salisbury Symphony performs at Meroney Theatre, Livingstone College, Catawba College, and other Salisbury venues.
