In Monday’s (1/24) San Jose Mercury News (California), Heather Zimmerman writes, “There will be much more than an anniversary waltz in store when the San Jose Chamber Orchestra marks its 20th year. The 20-member string orchestra celebrates its 20th anniversary with a dinner that will revisit high notes from the past and raise funds for the future. The dinner takes place Jan. 30, 5 p.m. at the Silicon Valley Capital Club, 50 W. San Fernando St., San Jose. Guests can enjoy dinner and fine wines, as well as performances by musical guests. A silent auction offers the opportunity to bid on an array of items and events, including orchids, wine, parties and concerts. Conductor Barbara Day Turner is founder and director of the SJCO. A dedication to new classical music has become a hallmark of the orchestra and, in fact, the group has received three ASCAP/League of American Orchestras Awards for Adventurous Programming. A world premiere by local composer Kerry Young will be on the program when the San Jose Youth Chamber Orchestra, the SJCO’s program for young musicians, plays alongside the adult orchestra in a concert slated for May.”
