In Friday’s (11/6) Santa Barbara News-Press (California), Josef Woodard writes, “For the most part, the current Santa Barbara Symphony season follows the traditional orchestral programming model. This weekend, however, the program turns the spotlight inward, in-town and in-house. For Haydn’s ‘Paukenmesse (Kettledrum Mass),’ the choral forces of the Santa Barbara Choral Society will expand the orchestra’s sonic dimension. And, from another corner of the classical era canon, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat is one of those rare occasions when the orchestra players normally folded into the ensemble mesh step forward in soloist roles. Among the featured musicians are traditionally supportive players such as horn player Teague Reaves, bassoonist Andy Radford, clarinetist Don Foster, and oboe player Lara Wickes.
