During the 2017-18 season, Music Director Ludovic Morlot will lead Seattle Symphony’s world premiere of John Luther Adams’s Become Desert, the second Adams work to be commissioned by the orchestra, following the Pulitzer Prize-winning 2013 work Become Ocean. Other season highlights will include David Lang’s symphony without a hero, Andrew Norman’s Cello Concerto, with cellist Johannes Moser, and an unnamed work by Alexandra Gardner. Also planned during the season are Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite No. 2, led by Karina Canellakis, during Seattle’s citywide Shakespeare festival in 2017-18; Stravinsky’s Persephone, with sets and puppetry co-commissioned with the Oregon Symphony from film/theater designer Michael Curry; and, marking Leonard Bernstein’s birth centennial, the Overture to Candide, a semistaged Wonderful Town, and Prelude, Fugue and Riffs.
