“After seven seasons leading the Symphony Orchestra Augusta, Maestro Shizuo Z. Kuwahara is leaving to pursue other opportunities,” reports an unsigned story in Friday’s (8/19) Augusta Chronicle. “ ‘We have made many great accomplishments together, and I want to sincerely thank you for making my 7 years of directorship such a fruitful experience,’ Kuwahara said in a news release. ‘I am confident that the organization is in good hands with the wonderful board, staff members, and especially the talented musicians playing in the orchestra.’…Kuwahara’s departure is effective immediately, said Carra Purvis, the symphony’s development director. The organization is in the midst of restoring the Miller Theatre and expects to occupy it in late 2017. It will begin its 62nd season at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30…at First Baptist Church of Augusta. A search committee is being formed to begin the process of appointing a new music director.”
