In Saturday’s (6/19) Dallas Morning News, Scott Cantrell reports, “Dallas Symphony Orchestra music director Jaap van Zweden is withdrawing from some summer concerts because of a shoulder problem. Due to recurrence of a rotator cuff strain in his right shoulder, van Zweden will begin an extended period of rest on July 3. Stacie Adams, the DSO’s director of public relations, said the conductor is expected to be back at the Meyerson Symphony Center for the September opening of the main classical series in Dallas. Van Zweden will conduct the DSO’s first two classical concerts at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival in Colorado, on June 30 and July 2. After three pops concerts there, the DSO will play its final Vail concert, featuring the Beethoven Ninth Symphony, under Hans Graf, music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. … Van Zweden is also canceling his July 11 engagement to conduct the orchestra at the Aspen Festival in Colorado.”
