“American superstar soprano Renée Fleming will perform in concert with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Cho, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday,” writes William Kerns in Monday’s (9/8) Lubbock Avalanche-Journal (Texas). “Between rehearsals, Renée Fleming took the time to answer a large percentage of emailed questions. A-J: How often do you perform in smaller cities? Fleming: I perform concerts and recitals in cities of almost all sizes. I love singing in smaller cities because they tend to be especially welcoming. And I also find that a city doesn’t have to be huge to have a very lively, thriving music scene. A-J: Do you have any research done at all for you about that city’s orchestra or maestro, those with whom you will be working? Fleming: I definitely do research about conductors and orchestras I might work with. Singing with an orchestra and conductor is a big undertaking because there are so many moving parts with such a large group of artists.… I have good friends, like Susan Graham and Yo-Yo Ma, who have performed in Lubbock, and I’ve heard wonderful things about Maestro Cho and the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.”
