“The South Dakota Symphony’s presentation of Jeans n’ Classics earlier this month was music to the ears of Fleetwood Mac fans and music lovers in general. It was also music to the ears of three local charities, who received the funds raised from donations,” writes Jane Utecht in Thursday’s (2/27) Madison Daily Leader (South Dakota; subscription required). ‘It takes a community to raise a child, and it takes a community to bring an opportunity to the greater Madison area,’ said Madison Chamber of Commerce Director Rosie Jamison. The opportunity came from sponsors who provided funding for the concert, allowing donations in lieu of ticket sales to be provided for the three charities. Representatives from some of the 14 local sponsoring businesses were present on Friday as the $2,100 was disbursed equally to the three groups: Almost Home Canine Rescue, Domestic Violence Network, and the Madison Community Hospital Foundation…. With an all-volunteer group, a contribution like this $700 was ‘just amazing for us,’ said [Barb Stacey Olajide], representing Almost Home.… Christy VanDeWetering of DVN said the network helps provide … housing, jobs and community counseling. ‘Any funds we get help an individual live a violence free life.’ ”
