In Wednesday’s (9/9) Courier-Post (Cherry Hill, New Jersey), Deborah Hirsch writes, “Symphony in C is inviting Camden residents and employees to enjoy free concerts in the newly renovated Cooper Commons Park this fall. Small group ensembles from the professional training orchestra will perform classical music at the park’s amphitheater from 12:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for four Thursdays starting Sept. 17. The series, made possible by a $10,000 grant from RBC Wealth Management, marks the first time the symphony has given free public concerts in the city since relocating here three years ago. … Organizers say the concerts will also be an opportunity for the community to reclaim the park, which had fallen into disrepair and turned into a hangout for drug dealers and other unsavory characters before the county began redeveloping it in 2007. The recreational space bordered by Chambers Avenue, Washington Street, 6th Street and Auburn Alley officially reopened in late July. Steve Cordasco, a Haddonfield resident and senior vice president of RBC Wealth Management, said he wanted to sponsor the series because many children in the city might not normally get the chance to hear live classical music.”
