In Friday’s (5/7) Post Standard (Syracuse, New York), Melinda Johnson writes, “Syracuse University and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra may make more music together the coming two seasons. A new arrangement expands the existing partnership—a yearly on-campus SSO concert—between the educational institution and the music organization. Last year’s collaboration of the SSO for the world premiere of choreographer Paul Taylor’s new work, commissioned by SU, and ‘Recovered Voices’; in January sparked the idea, said Carole Brzozowski, university performing arts presenter. … SSO Music Director Daniel Hege will be hired as professor of practice in SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. He will teach master classes, work with students and possibly conduct rehearsals during the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 academic years. … Three free concerts will be presented by SU and SSO for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons. … Plans are developing for guest artists and SSO musicians to conduct master classes, seminars and special programs and to establish artist residencies.”
