In Friday’s (12/13) Tennessean (Nashville), Dave Paulson writes, “On her 24th birthday, Taylor Swift was the one giving the gifts. News broke Friday that the pop/country star has made a $100,000 donation to the Nashville Symphony. The symphony has yet to issue a formal announcement, but Nashville Symphony publicist Laurie Davis confirmed Swift’s donation and said more information would be provided on Monday. Earlier Friday, the organization tweeted that they were ‘profoundly grateful’ for the donation. ‘Thank you, Taylor, for supporting musicians & music in #MusicCity,’ the tweet read. ‘Happy Birthday!’ The donation caps a difficult 2013 for the symphony, which suffered a financial crisis earlier this year, nearly losing Schermerhorn Symphony Center to foreclosure. A deal reached in June to rescue the center put a renewed focus on the annual fundraising campaign. Swift’s donation news comes two months after the opening of the Taylor Swift Education Center in Nashville—the product of a $4 million donation Swift pledged to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012.”
