“Three finalists have been chosen in the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s meticulous search for a successor to Music Director William Boughton, who will leave the NHSO post after the 2018-19 season,” writes Joe Amarante in Tuesday’s (1/31) New Haven Register (Connecticut). “Each of the three finalists will guest-conduct concerts during the 2017-18 season. The new conductor will begin his or her permanent tenure in New Haven with the 2019-20 season, officials said.” The finalists are David Amado, who has served as music director of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra since 2003; Rebecca Miller, who has conducted in the U.K. and South America, led such U.S. orchestras as the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Houston Symphony, and was one of five conductors featured in the League of American Orchestras’ 2016 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview; and Alasdair Neale, who holds music directorships at Idaho’s Sun Valley Summer Symphony and California’s Marin Symphony and has guest conducted the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. “The new music director will be announced in the summer of 2018, but won’t take over until fall 2019 because of the lag time in planning a full season, an official said.”
