The Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra in Texas has announced three candidates to be its next music director: Daniel Black, Fouad Fakhouri, and Darryl One. Each of the three will lead one classical program during the 2016-17 season, with audiences having an opportunity to participate in the selection process. Daniel Black is music director of the Oshkosh (Wisconsin) Symphony Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Fouad Fakhouri served from 2004 to 2016 as music director of the Fayetteville (N.C.) Symphony Orchestra, where a $1.1 million endowment fund was recently established in his name. Darryl One is currently music director of the Victoria (Texas) Symphony Orchestra. Selection of the new music director will be made after the final audition concert, based on an evaluation process conducted by the search committee with input from the WFSO board of directors, members of the orchestra, audience, and community members. The winning candidate will begin as music director in the 2017-18 season. Candler Schaffer stepped down in April 2016 after 20 years as music director.
