The third season of the Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail, Montana, will feature the world premiere of Aaron Jay Kernis’s String Quartet No. 4, commissioned by the festival and performed by the Borromeo String Quartet. The season (July 6-Sept. 8), will include chamber music by Bach, Gershwin, Barber, Cage, Glass, Ned Rorem, Gabriel Kahane, and Timo Andres as well as recitals. A focus on Romantic composers such as Chopin and Robert and Clara Schumann will connect with Tippet’s focus on art, music, architecture, and land. Performers include St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, and the Calidore, Dover, and Escher string quartets. Concerts will take place at the Oliver Music Barn and at Domo, an outdoor sculptural structure, and an outdoor acoustic shell will be the site for pre-concert talks. Founded in 2016 by Peter and Cathy Halstead, Tippet Rise Art Center is a 10,260-acre ranch near the Beartooth Mountains that features site-specific sculptures in addition to its summer concerts.
