The 2014-15 season will include two world premieres by composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, who turned 75 in April. In September, her Fantasy for Solo Violin will have its premiere at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, which commissioned the work. The work will be performed in the competition’s semifinal round during a 75-minute recital program that will be streamed live. In April 2015, Trudy Kane will serve as soloist in the world premiere of Zwilich’s Concerto for Flute and String Orchestra, with the Frost Symphony Orchestra at University of Miami. On September 21, Sveriges Radio—Swedish public radio—will air P2 Documentary: Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, a Pioneering and Groundbreaking Composer, a one-hour documentary about Zwilich, to include interviews with the composer and pianist Joseph Kalichstein, and music from Passionate Diversions, a recording of her works released in 2014.
