On March 17, Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will perform a program entitled “Musical Landscapes” that will highlight art from the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Artistic Director Daniel Meyer will conduct the Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite, as images are displayed from the museum’s collection illustrating the landscape of western Pennsylvania. Also to be performed on the concert are Glière’s Horn Concerto, with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Principal Horn William Caballero as soloist, and Smetana’s Má Vlast. In conjunction with landscape-themed program, the orchestra partnered with the Westmoreland County Federated Library System for their Fall/Winter One Book One Community program; participants read Willa Cather’s My Antonia and were invited to the concert at the Palace Theater in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. WSO Executive Director Endicott Reindl described Copland’s music as a “natural fit” for the museum’s “extensive American collection.”
