Canada’s Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra is partnering with two Winnipeg-based dance groups for its October 19 and 20 performances of Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring at the Centennial Concert Hall, led by Music Director Daniel Raiskin. Dancers from Buffy Handel’s Aboriginal School of Dance and Odette Heyn-Projects will perform in the Stravinsky, and the program will also include Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite and “Three Dance Variations” from Leonard Bernstein’s Fancy Free. In addition to performing a regular concert series at Winnipeg’s Centennial Concert Hall and educational concerts for more than 40,000 students each year, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra presents an annual New Music Festival and operates the music education program Sistema Winnipeg in partnership with two local school divisions.
