Madison-based Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras has announced that its premier ensemble, the Youth Orchestra, will tour Argentina from July 24 to August 3 under the direction of WYSO Music Director James Smith. The Youth Orchestra, comprising 68 musicians aged 14 to 18 who hail from 19 communities in southern Wisconsin, will visit Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, and Rosario. The group will present four concerts, including a performance for students at Escuela 23 del Distrito Escolar 19 who have limited exposure to classical music. Tour repertoire includes Bernstein’s Candide Overture, Copland’s Billy the Kid Suite, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, the “Malambo” from Ginastera’s Estancia Suite, and Liturgical Scenes by Dwane S.
