Janet Chen, executive director of Ohio’s ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and Denise Rehg, executive director of the Columbus Symphony, are both featured in an August 8 Columbus Business First article profiling women who hold top administrative posts at Columbus-area arts organizations. In addition to Chen and Rehg, women profiled in the article include Nannette Maciejunes at the Columbus Museum of Art and the three-member administrative team at Shadowbox Live: Stacie Boord, Katy Psenicka, and Julie Klein. In addition, Peggy Kriha Dye is general and artistic director of Opera Columbus, Johanna Burton is director of the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University, Sue Porter is executive director of BalletMet, and Suzan Bradford is executive director of the Lincoln Theatre. In the article, the Columbus Symphony’s Rehg says, “We have a duty to invest in younger women who are interested in leadership in arts,” and ProMusica’s Chen says she wants to instill in younger women composers and staff members a sense of “being able to take up space. I’m always having to tell myself that I’m allowed to command a room, to take up more space. I want other women to feel the same.”
