Julia Hatmaker reports Friday (5/2) on Central Pennsylvania’s pennlive.com, “York Symphony Orchestra has a new music director. Conductor Lawrence Golan, who has won nine American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Awards, will replace Dr. Robert Hart Baker as the head of the orchestra. ‘We are incredibly proud to announce a musician of such high caliber has been selected and has accepted the music director position,’ said YSO Board of Directors President Jane Davis in a press release.… Golan has conducted orchestras internationally, having performed as far away as Taiwan. He is a tenured professor at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music and conducts the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. His list of awards includes five Global Music Awards, three American Prize Awards, three Downbeat Magazine Awards and two Prestige Music Awards.” Golan’s first performance with the York Symphony as music director will be on October 18, in a program consisting of Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony, Peter Boyer’s New Beginnings, and Chris Brubeck’s Bass Trombone Concerto.
