North Carolina’s Youth Orchestras of Charlotte will perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. on February 17, representing the first-ever tour for the orchestra. Music Director Ernest Pereira will conduct the orchestra during the Capitol Orchestra Festival held over Presidents’ Day Weekend, as one of four orchestras to perform in the festival; the three others are Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (NY), Cherry Hill East Symphony Orchestra (NJ), and the Choate Rosemary Hall Orchestra (CT). Prior to the tour, Pereira will lead Youth Orchestras of Charlotte in a send-off concert on January 27 at Charlotte’s Halton Theater, where the YOC will perform Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, dances from DeFalla’s Three Cornered Hat, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 25.
