“The New York Times has a new classical music editor and a new dance editor, culture editor Danielle Mattoon announced in a staff memo this afternoon,” writes Nicole Levy on Friday (3/20) at Capital New York. “Zachary Woolfe joins the paper of record as classical music editor, having contributed coverage of classical music to the Times since 2010. Woolfe, previously an editor and writer for this site and an opera critic for The New York Observer, will continue to write reviews and features as he takes on editing responsibilities. His first day at the Times is Monday. Meanwhile, daily book editor Rachel Saltz adds ‘dance editor’ to her title. The newspaper’s former classical music and dance editor, Myra Forsberg, told Capital she was taking a buyout last December. The ranks of the Times’ culture section have been significantly pared down by a combination of buyouts and layoffs.”
