John Doney, newly named executive director of the Abilene Philharmonic in Texas.

The Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra in Texas has appointed John Doney as executive director. Community volunteer Mandy Gollihar, who was previously president of the orchestra’s Board of Governors and served as acting executive director during the search process for an executive director, will work with Doney as assistant executive director through October 31. Doney, 39, was previously general manager of Symphony Arlington and development coordinator for the Florida Orchestra in St. Petersburg. Doney’s career in the arts spans over 15 years, during which he held performing and administrative positions with the U.S. Army Bands, the Kansas City Symphony, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, the Cape Symphony (Barnstable, Massachusetts), the Florida Orchestra, and Symphony Arlington. He has led initiatives to expand audiences, develop educational programs, and forge partnerships with local businesses and community organizations.
