Janna Hymes, newly named artistic director and conductor the Verde Valley Sinfonietta in Sedona, Arizona.

The Verde Valley Sinfonietta in Sedona, Arizona, has appointed Janna Hymes as artistic director and conductor. The Sinfonietta’s eight-member search committee, comprised equally of orchestral musicians and board members, selected Hymes after considering audience and musician evaluations of her April 2 concert with the orchestra. Hymes has been artistic director of Indiana’s Carmel Symphony Orchestra since 2017. Recent performances include guest engagements with the Venice Symphony (FL), and Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (VA). Other ensembles she has conductor include the orchestras of Houston, Indianapolis, Oregon, North Carolina, Portland (ME), New Hampshire, Hartford (CT), Madison (WI), Florida West Coast, Stamford, Harrisburg (PA), Spokane (WA), Richmond (VA), Springfield (MA), Chappaqua (NY), Bangor (ME), and Omaha. She has led orchestras in Central America, Europe, and Mexico. Hymes’s previous posts include music director of the Maine Grand Opera and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, associate conductor of the Indianapolis Symphony, resident conductor of the Charlotte Symphony, and music director of the Columbus Women’s Orchestra, Cincinnati Composers’ Guild, and I Solisti Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. She has served as Assistant Conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra (OH) and the Teatro Massimo Opera House in Palermo, Italy.
