Board members serve as valued guides, advisors, and advocates at orchestras, but that doesn’t have to stop them from conceiving new approaches to governance practice, committee structures, and procedures. Building on the recent Symphony magazine article “Rethinking Orchestra Governance” by League President and CEO Simon Woods, the 60-minute “Board Accountability Beyond the Bottom Line: Shifting Measures of Excellence in Governance” webinar will focus on principles, processes, and goals of “good governance” that might be overdue for a rethink. Presenter Diane Ragsdale, director of the MA in Creative Leadership at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, will explore alternative board models and answer governance questions.

“Board Accountability Beyond the Bottom Line: Shifting Measures of Excellence in Governance” takes place on Thursday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern/Noon Pacific. Learn more and register here. The League offers 50% off webinar registrations to staff of NYC arts organizations, thanks to the generosity of the Howard Gilman Foundation and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and to staff of New York orchestras, made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

If you can’t attend the webinar live, register to receive the recording. Questions? Contact League Member Services at member@americanorchestras.org.
