Raphaela Lacerda, newly named assistant conductor at California’s San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra.

“Raphaela Lacerda recently joined the staff of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra as assistant conductor,” states an unsigned article in Friday’s (5/26) San Bernardino Sun (CA). “In that role, she will assist Anthony Parnther, the orchestra’s music director and conductor, and Lesley Leighton, principal guest conductor, by supervising stage management; coordinating with the musicians’ librarian; providing support to guest artists; assisting at rehearsals and educational concerts; collaborating with Parnther on the planning and selection of themes, repertoire and soloists; and acting as cover conductor for rehearsals, concerts and other programs. She will also assist Anne Viricel, the orchestra’s executive director, by managing the orchestra’s social media, researching and developing new projects and assisting with mission advancement, especially as it relates to education and outreach….Lacerda, who was born in São Paulo, Brazil, has conducted orchestras in Brazil and the United States, including the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra , São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, São Paulo State Youth Orchestra, Santo André Symphony Orchestra and San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra. She is the assistant conductor of the Diamond Youth Symphony Orchestra and Musicians at Play Foundation. She [is] orchestra director of the World Music Symphony Orchestra at Azusa Conservatory of Music. She received her master’s degree in instrumental conducting in 2023 from Azusa Pacific University.”
